Forums Frequently Asked Questions
We welcome all to our forums
section, powered by ultrabb. We invite our site visitors to post questions and queries
and we invite our San Carlos friends to assist us with providing answers.
We ask that all obey a few simple rules and netiquette so that all may
benefit from this service.
Please post on the appropriate
board. We have message boards or forums for fishing, diving, sailing and
general information and a marketplace section. Each forum has it's own experts who monitor and
respond to queries and questions.
Please do not post in all capital
letters-this is considered shouting and is rude to netizens.
We want to encourage an honest
exchange of information but we ask all to play nicely. Flame wars,
personal attacks or vendettas and profanity are not appreciated or
desired. If you have a grudge or score to settle, hire a lawyer-don't put
it here. You have the right to post - - you do not have the right to be a
jerk.
Q: How do I register to Post
A: To read our forums you need not
register but you must do so to post or reply to posts. Follow these
instructions to register.
At the upper right you should see:
Not logged in - Login | Register
Click on the Register link and a Register window will open. Fill in all 4
boxes with a username, valid email address and enter the password twice.
Please write the password down-we can change it for you but cannot recover
it. Click the send button at the bottom right of the Register window. You
will get a message that says an email has been sent to your email address
so be sure the address you entered is correct.
Wait a few minutes (varies depending on mail server loads) and open our
email message. You will see a link in our welcome message that must be
clicked on to complete your registration process. That is it and you are
now free to post and reply.
If the system does not seem to respond properly after you register, check
the security settings in your web browser and make sure cookies are
allowed. Ours will not harm you or your system but are necessary to allow
the forum to operate properly. If you are still having a problem, email
host@sancarlosmexico.com
The new forum format has some
features that were not available from the previous provider. You can
edit posts, insert photos, hyperlinks, email addresses and more. At the
very top of the forum screen are buttons that will allow you to search the
forums by keyword, see all of your posts (My Account), see a list of
Members, see and post events on our Calendar, get Help with the forum and
return Home to the main web site. You can also insert an avatar, a
small image that represents you and will appear on all of your posts.
See the Avatar tab under My Account for more information.
Q: Can we post photos or
hyperlinks?
A: Yes, but please use good
taste and let's try and maintain a PG-13 rating. You can add an
image or hyperlink to your message very easily by clicking on the Insert
Image or Insert Link button in the toolbars above the message text box.
Please make the image width 480 pixels or less to properly display.
Q: Can I edit my posts?
A: Yes, you can edit your own posts.
Q: Are posts ever deleted?
A: We reserve the right to
delete posts that are time sensitive such as events that have already
happened or that are not on topic or that are duplicates. We also reserve the right to
delete posts that violate our rules, as noted above.
Q: Can I post an event or
advertise my site?
A: If you are a San Carlos
non-profit organization we are happy to to have you post your event.
If you are a business or for-profit organization and have not been already
been granted authority to post, please email your request to
host@sancarlosmexico.com before you post.
Q: I have something to sell or
rent. Can I post this?
A: Post for sale or rental
items in our Mercado (Market Place) section. Listings are free for 30 days.
Visit the Mercado section for more information. Please do not post
these items in the topical forums
Q: Can I view the forums in
Spanish?
A: Yes, by selecting Spanish
as the preferred language in the Preferences tab under My Account.
The system will also display in Arabic, Dutch, Italian, French, German,
Malay and Turkish. Posts will appear in the language of the poster.
Q: Can I post in Spanish or
other language?
A: If you do, we request that
you provide an English version as well so all can understand your post. If
you don't translate it, we reserve the right to do it for you and you may
not like the results.
Q: Can I search the forums?
A: Yes, we have enabled search
capability on each forum so you can search previous posts by keyword.
Q: I have a question that is
still unanswered and I don't want to ask it on a forum. Can you help me?
A: First, use our
site search feature and type in your search phrase. If you still
cannot find the answer,
drop
us an email and we'll try and get an answer for you.

protocol) address, your ISP (internet service provider, such as AOL or
Shaw Cable), the browser you used to visit our site (such as Internet

Cookies and Web Beacons
We do use cookies to store information, such as your personal
preferences when you visit our site. This could include only showing you
a popup once in your visit, or the ability to login to our forums.
We also use third party advertisements on forum.sancarlosmexico.com/ to
support our site. Some of these advertisers may use technology such as
cookies and web beacons when they advertise on our site, which will also
send these advertisers (such as Google through the Google AdSense
program) information including your IP address, your ISP , the browser
you used to visit our site, and in some cases, whether you have Flash
installed. This is generally used for geotargeting purposes (showing New
York real estate ads to someone in New York, for example) or showing
certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as showing cooking ads
to someone who frequents cooking sites).
DoubleClick DART cookies
We also may use DART cookies for ad serving through Google’s DoubleClick,
which places a cookie on your computer when you are browsing the web and
visit a site using DoubleClick advertising (including some Google
AdSense advertisements). This cookie is used to serve ads specific to
you and your interests (”interest based targeting”). The ads served will
be targeted based on your previous browsing history (For example, if you
have been viewing sites about visiting Las Vegas, you may see Las Vegas
hotel advertisements when viewing a non-related site, such as on a site
about hockey). DART uses “non personally identifiable information”. It
does NOT track personal information about you, such as your name, email
address, physical address, telephone number, social security numbers,
bank account numbers or credit card numbers. You can opt-out of this ad
serving on all sites using this advertising by visiting
http://www.doubleclick.com/privacy/dart_adserving.aspx
You can choose to disable or selectively turn off our cookies or
third-party cookies in your browser settings, or by managing preferences
in programs such as Norton Internet Security. However, this can affect
how you are able to interact with our site as well as other websites.
This could include the inability to login to our forums.
Deleting cookies does not mean you are permanently opted out of any
advertising program. Unless you have settings that disallow cookies, the
next time you visit a site running the advertisements, a new cookie will
be added.
